General Information

The Code Compliance Office provides services for the enforcement of the Wasilla Municipal Code, regulations, and policy.  The goal of the Code Compliance Office is to gain voluntary compliance through community partnership, education, and outreach.  The Code Compliance Office also conducts field inspections and investigates code violations.

Violations are generally investigated on a complaint basis. If a complaint cannot be resolved on an informal basis, it may become a formal code enforcement issue.

Submitting a Complaint

To submit or view the status of a complaint, follow this link to Citizenserve.

You must register prior to submitting a complaint.  Registering as a known citizen provides Code Compliance the necessary contact information that may be needed to investigate a complaint more effectively.  However, you may register and file a complaint anonymously.

Providing an accurate description of where the problem is occurring will ensure staff investigates the appropriate site. The best way to describe the location is by street address, subdivision name, lot and block number, or township, range, section (TRS).

Please provide as much detail as you can about the concern or problem prior to submission.  The portal allows you to upload photos and documents.  Please include any photos or documents you feel may be relevant or helpful.

Overview of Complaint Process

  1. Upon receipt of a complaint, the Code Compliance Office will research the complaint and may conduct a site visit to determine if a code violation exists.
  2. If a violation exists, the Code Compliance Office will attempt to inform the tenant and/or owner (responsibility party) of the violation and seek voluntary correction, which may include negotiating a reasonable amount of time for the responsible party to correct the problem. Solutions may include establishing nonconforming rights, seeking a variance for setback issues, or requesting the accumulation of junk and trash on the property be reduced.
  3. If a violation does not exist, no further action will be taken. A closure notice will not be issued.
  4. If a violation exists, a written warning may be issued and/or posted.  The warning provides a legal notice to the responsible party that a violation has been observed by the Code Compliance Officer. The Warning Notice will include the nature of violation and it may include a timeframe by which the violation must be corrected.
  5. If the responsible party fails to correct a violation, an enforcement order and/or citation may be issued.  In addition, the City of Wasilla may take abatement actions to remedy the violation and hold the responsible party liable for the abatement expenses, which can include the issuance of a lien against the property.
