In addition to other provisions of law, Title 4 of the Wasilla Municipal Code governs the administration of elections conducted by the City of Wasilla. Research Title 4.
Calendar: Date/Event/Reference
January 1: Absentee by-mail ballot applications may be filed beginning this day for all elections in the calendar year. (WMC 4.20.020)
July 16: Candidate filing forms are available online and from the City Clerk's Office. (Policy)
July 21: Candidate filing opens. First day to file for office. (WMC 4.12.030)
August 1: Candidate filing closes. Deadline to file for office. (WMC 4.12.030)
August 1: To appear on the ballot, propositions must be adopted by this day. (WMC 4.04.090)
August 8: Withdrawal deadline for candidates at 4:00 p.m. (WMC 4.12.070)
September 7: Deadline for voters to register to vote or update their registration. (WMC 4.08.010)
September 22: Early in-person voting begins. (WMC 4.20.035)
September 30: Absentee By-Mail ballot applications are due to the City Clerk's Office by 5:00 p.m., Alaska time. (WMC 4.20.020)
October 6: Early in-person voting ends. (WMC 4.20.035)
October 7: Election Day. The polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (WMC 4.16.030)
October 8: The Canvass Board meets to review provisional ballots. The Board will continue to meet throughout the week until all ballots have been reviewed. (WMC 4.28.100)
October 10: Provisional ballots are scheduled to be counted in the late afternoon. (WMC 4.28.100)
October 13: The election is scheduled for certification at the Council Meeting, 6:00 p.m., City Hall, Council Chambers. (WMC 4.28.100),
October 27: Upon taking their oath of office, newly elected council members are seated at the City Council Meeting, 6:00 p.m., City Hall, Council Chambers. (WMC 2.04.030)
