Public Right-of-Way

It is against the law to place any sign, to include, political signs, or structures or objects of any kind in, on, under, or over a portion of a public right-of-way.  No part of any sign shall encroach into a public right-of-way or the air space above such a right-of-way, nor shall any part of a sign obscure a sight triangle. 

Signs in the right-of-way will be removed without notice and held by the City for 15 calendar days before disposal.

The owner of the sign may recover the sign(s) within the 15-day period upon payment of a $10 fee per sign (WMC 12.16.040(C)).

While political signs are exempt from permit application to the City Planner, the placement of signs within Wasilla City limits must conform with all other requirements of WMC 16.32. For more information, contact the Planning Office at 907-373-9020.
