Do I need to complete all sections of the Absentee By-Mail Ballot Application?

Yes, carefully complete and sign the application. The information requested on the application is required under the law. Omissions or errors may cause a delay in ballot mailing and result in the rejection of the application.

If after you submit your application, your physical or mailing address change, immediately contact the City Clerk's Office at (907) 373-9090 or email clerk@ci.wasilla.ak.us.

If no ballot mailing address is provided on the application, the ballot will be sent to the voter's permanent mailing address on file with the Alaska State Division of Elections. Ballots returned as undelivered, will not be forwarded. 

Does the Absentee By-Mail Ballot Application need to be signed?

Yes, the ballot application must be signed by the voter requesting a ballot. For more information, contact the City Clerk's Office at (907) 373-9090 or email clerk@ci.wasilla.ak.us.

Is my ballot application a public record?

Generally, absentee by-mail ballot applications are public information; however, some information on the application, such as signature, date of birth, social security number, and/or voter number are confidential. 

Confidential Residence Address. A voter’s residence address is public information. A voter may elect to keep their residential address confidential if the mailing address is different from the residence address. This can be requested in writing or by checking the appropriate box on the voter registration application. A voter's confidential residence address may be disclosed to government agencies or during election processes as set out in state law.

When can I expect to receive my ballot?

A ballot and voting material will be mailed to the voter at the ballot mailing address provided on the application approximately 15 days prior to Election Day. If no ballot mailing address is provided on the application, the ballot will be sent to the voter's permanent mailing address on file with the Alaska State Division of Elections. Ballots returned as undelivered, will not be forwarded.

What is the deadline for returning the ballot?

The ballot envelope must be postmarked by Election Day and received in the Wasilla City Clerk's Office no later than the third day following the election or the ballot will not be counted.

If you choose to hand-deliver the ballot, it must be delivered to an election official at a City polling place location by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, or deposited in the Secure Drop Box at City Hall, 290 E Herning Avenue, by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. 

After I receive a by-mail ballot, can I choose to vote at my designated polling place on Election Day instead of voting by-mail?

Yes, you may vote at your designated polling place on Election Day; however, you must surrender the by-mail ballot or vote a questioned ballot.

How do I vote by-mail in national/state or borough elections?

To vote by mail in the Borough election, contact the Borough Clerk's Office at 907-861-8683 or visit them online for more information.
