Computer Usage Policy
Purpose: To fulfill our mission of providing public access to information resources and to provide opportunities for lifelong learning, the Wasilla Public Library offers free access to the Internet and other computer resources.
Statement of Responsibility: The Wasilla Public Library, the City of Wasilla, and its Internet service provider do not control the information on the Internet and are not responsible for its content. Availability of Internet resources does not imply endorsement of them.
Wasilla Public Library does not warrant the accuracy, correctness or suitability of any information or data furnished through the Internet to the user. In no event shall Wasilla Public Library be liable to the user in any way whatsoever for any claims, notwithstanding the form of such claims, arising or resulting from or related to use of the Library’s Internet connection.
Access: Wasilla Public Library upholds and affirms the right of each individual to have access to constitutionally protected materials. Internet resources, like all Library information, are provided equally to all Library users. The Library also affirms the right and responsibility of parents to determine and monitor their own children’s use of all library materials and resources.
Confidentiality: Any information that identifies Internet users with specific materials or subject matter is considered confidential. Such records shall not be made available to any agency of local, state or federal government except pursuant to such process, order or subpoena as may be authorized under the authority of federal, state or local law relating to criminal, civil or administrative discovery procedures or legislative investigatory power. Wasilla Public Library resists the issuance or enforcement of any such process, order or subpoena until such time as proper showing of good cause has been made in court of competent jurisdiction.
Legal and Ethical Use: All existing City of Wasilla, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, State of Alaska and United States laws and Library policies apply to users of library computer resources. Violation or attempted violation of any laws, regulations or policies or library system security may result in loss of library privileges and possible civil or criminal penalties. Illegal or unauthorized use of library computer resources includes, but is not limited to: attempts to damage or alter equipment or software; to violate copyright laws or software license agreements; to gain unauthorized access of the library’s or other networks or computer systems; or to engage in libel, slander, harassment, fraud or any other illegal activity.
Display of sexually explicit images at any electronic device in public view in the library is prohibited and may result in loss of library privileges and possible civil or criminal penalties.
Privacy: While the library is sensitive to patrons’ need for privacy while using all library resources including computers, no guarantee is possible. Patrons are expected to respect the privacy of Internet users in the library.
