Memorial Donations

Wasilla Public Library welcomes gifts of needed material or funds for the purchase of needed material. Donors are encouraged to provide funds for material, so the items may be selected, purchased and processed in accordance with standard public library guidelines for acquisitions. The donor is invited to indicate subjects of special interest to the person or agency being remembered. Conditional donations which do not meet the general practices of a public library will be referred to a more appropriate recipient whenever possible.

Donations of funds should be made payable to the City of Wasilla. At the time of donation, donors will be provided with a receipt of their donation and a copy of this policy.

Within sixty calendar days following receipt of the donated funds, the library director or director’s designee will choose items in accordance with collection needs and standard selection guidelines. Careful consideration will be given to any special subject areas suggested by the donor. Once the materials are received, the donor will be contacted in writing and given a list of the materials purchased with his/her donation.

The donor may want to arrange a time to view the selected material prior to its placement in the collection. If the donor has requested a viewing, when the material is shelf-ready, the library director or designated staff member will contact the donor and arrange for a viewing.

A memorial plate will be affixed to each item purchased with the donor’s funds. Material will be classified in the collection in order to be most useful to the community. Unless the title is most appropriate for the Reference collection, it will be circulated without restrictions.

The library reserves the right to replace or remove any donated items that cease to be useful to borrowers. The items will be discarded in the same manner as other library material.
