All year long there is always something going on around the city!
City of Wasilla Independence Day Celebration
Every year the City of Wasilla hosts a community parade and picnic on the 4th of July. The parade begins at 11am downtown Wasilla. The Mayor's picnic immediately follows the parade on the Iditapark lawn from 1-3pm. Enjoy live music entertainment, hot dog eating contest, games and activities. Free hot dogs and refreshments will be served for the community to enjoy. Over 3,000 people gather to enjoy a day of festive activities that are sponsored by local businesses and the City of Wasilla.
Music in the Park
95.5 The Pass, Make A Scene Magazine & The People's Paper have partnered with the City of Wasilla to bring you the 2024 MUSIC IN THE PARK SERIES! Every Saturday in June and 4th of July the community comes together at Wonderland Park in Wasilla, for live music, food trucks, vendors, prizes, and great family fun! Admission is FREE! Wasilla Clean Up Days May 6-11th
May marks the annual clean-up of the city after a long winter. Alpar supplies cleanup bags that are available to the community, and a dumpster is provided by the Mat-Su Borough for trash bag drop off. The event lasts for one week. Drop off your bags at the dumpster located at Wonderland parking lot during designated times. Please no car parts, hazardous materials or appliances. Bags are available at the Public Works Department at City Hall, Wasilla Museum, and the Menard Center.
Alaska Arbor Day Celebration
In Alaska, Arbor Day is held in May. The City of Wasilla is proud to celebrate this event and share in the importance of planting trees. The City of Wasilla is the oldest "Tree City USA" in the State of Alaska. In an effort to maintain that title, the city has been planting trees to improve parks and the roadside. This project includes continued tree maintenance and tree inventory. Contact the Public Works Department to join the community in planting a tree!
Christmas Friendship Dinner
The Christmas Friendship Dinner is a long standing event held on Christmas day at the Menard Center at 1001 S. Clapp St from 11am to 3pm. Enjoy a traditional Christmas Dinner, with music and entertainment open to the public, hosted by the Christmas Friendship Dinner organization, in conjunction with local non profit organizations and businesses. Over 3500 FREE meals are served by hundreds of dedicated volunteers. For more information, visit their web site at christmasfriendshipdinner.org.
Spring and Winter Learn to Skate Ice Show
Learn to Skate Ice Show at the Menard Center features our Learn to Skate program participants. Free admission and treats for everyone with a free public skate, as time permits, that follows the show. Free skate rental and Bobbies (skate aids).
Homeless Connect
The Homeless Connect is held at the Menard Center in the month of January. Help and support is available to all those in need in the community. Many organizations available all under one roof to help those in need. Free to the Community.
New Year's Eve Fireworks
Join the City of Wasilla as they ring in the NEW Year at Wonderland Park in Iditapark. Bring the entire family, a folding chair, dress warm, and enjoy a brilliant Fireworks display by Aurora Pyrotechnics around 8 p.m. Dec 31st. Please leave your pets at home, and don't climb the delicate trees in the park.
Skate the Lake
Skate the Lake is a community skating party held on Wasilla Lake, at Newcomb Park in the month of March. Bring your skates, friends, and family to skate the lake! Free hot cocoa and cookies will be provided.
Wednesday Farmer's Market
Every Wednesday 10am-5pm at Iditapark, starting the first week in June and ending in August.
