As part of implementing the Downtown Area Plan, the Planning Commission and Downtown Overlay District Committee held numerous public meetings to create a downtown overlay zoning district that contains regulations and design standards for existing and future development within the downtown overlay zoning district.

The goal was to create a vibrant, walkable downtown that encourages economic growth and provides an attractive place for residents and visitors to work, shop, and visit.

After several public hearings, the Wasilla City Council, approved Ordinance Serial No. 16-10 on April 25, 2016, which adopted the Downtown Overlay District and Design Standards.  The Downtown Overlay District regulations and design standards may be viewed using the links below:
