How to report fraud via the Internet or Phone

If your identity has been compromised or you have fallen victim to a scam via telephone or internet (i.e. Publishers Clearing House) please follow the steps below:

  1. Report the incident to IC3.gov for internet fraud and crime, this reports it to the FBI Cyber Crime Division.
  2. Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission- FTC Website OR 1-877-382-4357
  3. For International Fraud please contact the US Secret Service at 907-271-5148
  4. Report any possible identity theft to the IRS via their website.

The Wasilla Police Department does not handle any interstate or internet fraud where the information was stolen outside city limits.  Such incidents include the GCI Employee Phishing Scam, Publishers Clearing House and Phishing Emails or Texts. Credit card fraud where the card number has been used outside the city limits, but still at a physical location (not online), should be reported to the law enforcement agency where the card was used.  If your card number was used fraudulently online you should report that to IC3.gov and your financial institution.

When to use the Citizen Report Form for fraud:

  • Physical items were stolen from within the City Limits of Wasilla (Checkbook, Credit Cards, Wallets, etc)
  • Stolen Credit Cards, Checks, Social Security and Identities were used within the City Limits of Wasilla

Please contact the Wasilla Police Department at 907-352-5401 or wpdadmin@cityofwasilla.gov with any questions.
