Construction companies and businesses may use designated fire hydrants to fill commercial trucks with large quantities of water.

Authorized Hydrants that may be used with this Permit

• E. Herning Ave. @ N. Knik St. (across from City Hall).......................... Year Round
• E. Dana Ave. @ N. Lucille St. (by 125 E. Dana Ave.)................... April 1^st – September 30^th
• W. Deskas St. @ N. Southway St. ............................................ April 1^st – September 30^th

Hydrant Use Rules

1. Use only those hydrants that are identified above.
2. A HYDRANT WRENCH must be used.  No pipe wrenches.
3. Fully open the hydrant to prevent undermining of the hydrant.  An auxiliary control valve MUST BE USED.  This valve is to be closed before operating the hydrant. 
4. Do NOT over tighten the hydrant.  If it does not stop leaking, call Public Works for inspection at (907) 373-9010 or after-hours call our Dispatch at 352-5454.
5. Reinstall cap each time.  Do not leave equipment attached.  Equipment found attached to a hydrant will be removed.  Take preventive measures to prevent a cross contamination and backflow.
6. Submit water meter reading reports to Utility Billing by the 20^th of each month.  Reports can be submitted by fax to (907)373-9011 or email to publicworks@ci.wasilla.ak.us.
7. This permit must be available immediately upon request by any city employee or police officer during use of the hydrant meter.  If anyone is found taking water from a hydrant without a valid permit a $300.00 citation will be issued per offense in addition to associated water consumption charges, fees and meter rental fees.
8. An inspection of the meter and new permit are REQUIRED annually.  A permit from the previous year will not be acceptable for current year. 

Hydrant Use Permit Deposit and Rental Fee

An annual deposit of $2,500 is required for the hydrant meter with back-flow preventer.  A rental fee of $500 per month will be applied to your account monthly. 

Hydrant Bulk Water Rates
Bulk water is to be metered and water usage must be reported to the City on a monthly basis. Water is charged at $0.05 per gallon. Failure to report usage by the 15th day of each month will cause a minimum of 5,000 gallons usage to be billed to your account. Continued failure to report consumption will result in forfeiture of your deposit and revocation of your permit to use City bulk water.
